EXIT PROCEDURES & TRAFFIC EXPECTATIONS
PleaSE REVIEW
-
Traffic after major events at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) can be extremely heavy. During peak departure windows, all nearby parking lots—including official COTA parking—may experience 100% standstill traffic lasting an hour or more.
This is most often caused by SH-130 backing up, which impacts FM-812 and surrounding roads. These delays are normal for large-scale events and are not specific to any single parking lot.
-
Our on-site uniformed law enforcement actively manages traffic flow at exit gates during peak times and will open or pause exits based on real-time conditions and law enforcement traffic control.
When exiting:
Follow all instructions from parking staff.
Use one lane at a time, as directed.
When lanes merge, please zipper merge—allowing other vehicles to take turns.
Courtesy and cooperation help traffic move more smoothly for everyone.
-
Yes. After major race weekends, every lot in the COTA area is affected. Even lots closest to the venue can experience long delays due to regional traffic patterns and highway congestion.
Please plan accordingly and allow extra time for departure.
-
A calm, courteous approach makes a real difference:
Be patient and avoid aggressive driving.
Allow others to merge—zipper merging works best.
Do not block intersections or exits.
Keep music at a reasonable level.
-
While waiting:
Start a playlist, podcast, or audiobook.
Have water and snacks handy.
Review photos or videos from the race.
Take a few deep breaths—traffic will move once highway congestion clears.
-
Some guests choose to leave before the final event ends, or wait 30–60 minutes after peak exit times.
While this can reduce delays, traffic conditions vary and cannot be guaranteed.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Large events bring heavy traffic. A calm, courteous exit helps keep everyone safe and moving smoothly. While staff can’t manage every drive aisle, we appreciate drivers taking turns and showing courtesy to one another on drive aisles and main gravel roads.
Don’t let traffic bring you down after the best weekend of the year!
